EKU hosts the East Central United States Kendo Federation annual tournament

The EKU Kendo Club and EKU Campus Recreation hosted the East Central US Kendo Federation annual tournament and promotional test on March 14-15, 2015 at the Weaver Gymnasium. Over 100 participants attended from Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Ohio and South Carolina.

Candace Stanley, CHU/ENG/SPA triple major, awarded Dean's Award of Merit

Candace Stanley (HUM, SPA, ENG triple major) is one of three recipients of the prestigious

EKU College of Arts and Sciences Dean's Award of Merit for the 2014-2015 academic year!

 

She will be presented with the award at the Scholars Assembly on Friday , April 17 and will receive a plaque as well as an honorarium of $1,001.

 

Erik Liddell featured in EKU Power of Maroon Leadership Spotlight

Dr. Erik Liddell, Assistant Professor of Comparative Humanities in the EKU Dept. of Languages, Cultures and Humanities, and recently named Chautauqua Lecture Coordinator, is featured in this ongoing series designed to allow EKU leaders and others in prominent positions to discuss their roles, as well as campus issues.

Abbey Poffenberger receives the 8th annual MOSAIIC award!

The Central Kentucky Diversity Consortium and the MOSAIIC is honored to present Dr. Abbey Poffenberger, EKU Associate Professor of Spanish and Dept. Languages, Cultures, and Humanities Chair, with the 8th annual MOSAIIC award at the conference on December 5, 2014 at the Lyric Theatre.

Manuel Cortés-Castañeda receives literary award from the Columbian National Government

Manuel Cortés-Castañeda, Associate Professor of Spanish at EKU, travelled to Bogota, Columbia to be presented with a literary award by the Columbian govermnent at the Instituto de Cultura: Tierra de Promisión.  While there, he will participate in literary workshops, discussions on poetry, and read his poetry and short stories in a variety of venues.

Dr. Michael Rich presents at the Montana State University Leadership Institute

 Dr. C. Michael Rich, EKU Assistant Professor of Japanese, presented on his experiences with rowing crew athletics at the Student Leadership Development Conference: Working In Sync, hosted by Montana State University in Bozeman, MT.  Held November 16, 2014, the conference was attended by approximately 300 guests.

EKU represented at the 12th Annual East Central United States Kendo Federation Johnson Cup

EKU JPN 102 student Brendan Kirwan and EKU Japanese Professor Dr. Michael Rich participated in the individual and team competitions in the 12th Annual East Central United States Kendo Federation Johnson Cup on Saturday, November 1, 2014.

Drs. Liddell, Poffenberger Named EKU’s Top Mentors

 Part of the mission of the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors is to connect high quality students with active faculty mentors.

Drs. Erik Liddell (CHU), Abbey Poffenberger (SPA), will be listed amongst faculty members who have mentored students on Honors projects, McNair projects, or independent studies.
