"I just received my Master's in Social Work [from U of L] in the last few months. I debated on what I wanted to do with it, but returned to my original interest in working with immigrants and refugees. I took an Americorps position working at Americana Community Center here in Louisville. They primarily work to assist immigrant/refugee families in whatever ways they might need, including ESL and family education courses. I will be the Family Education Coordinator, so I will be working to make sure teachers have meaningful ESL curriculum that promotes literacy for all the age groups. I think it's a good position that utilizes my social work skills, while also drawing on my knowledge of language acquisition." (June 2010)
